Event 36 - Spring 2001 - Crowborough Beacon
28th Golf Day held on 18th May 2001
For the first time in three golf days, Woodvale had good weather. And, the golfer who had a good day was Bob Torreson. He matched what a few others had done before by winning both the morning Stableford and the afternoon Greensomes. Coincidentally too, he scored 37 points in both rounds. In his morning round he shot six pars and a birdie and had a back-nine of 22 pts. The runner-up in the morning was Peter Hooper on 35 ahead of Mark Staples and Gary Pitt on 33. Guest Gary Bull scored 37 in his third event.
The afternoon Greensomes saw Bob paired up with Steve Watson and they just squeaked home on the back nine from Mark Staples and John Cooper. Mark's consolation was that his third spot in the morning made him the highest placed of last season's seven winners so giving him the Winner's Salver. Ian Cooper won the nearest-the-pin for his third win, a Society record and Peter Hooper took the Longest-Drive which was surprisingly his first win in the event.
