Event 41 - Summer 2002 - Hampshire

7th Summer Trip held on 12th/13th July 2002 

For our seventh Summer event we travelled to Hampshire to play at Barton-on-Sea just south of the New Forest and to Paultons north of the M27. Our party was split across three different guest houses, not ideal but we managed. The outlook was not promising but we were treated to some fine weather. We started with our usual Thursday night curry.  

36-hole Stableford at Barton-on-Sea

The 27-hole course was a real treat and scoring was high for our party. Both Richard Walsh & Robin Dyson scored 41 in the morning with John Fish & Steve Watson on 39. The afternoon round also saw some good scores with Steve Watson on 39 and Ian Pearce, Richard Walsh and Terry Winsall all on 37. Overall scores were tied and it was Steve Watson who won the day on the countback from Richard Walsh with Robin Dyson in third place five points behind.

Medal at Paultons Golf Centre

Shailen Patel started the day with a birdie and put together an unstoppable round of 89 for a net 67 and -4. This won him the Medal and his first individual society win. His nearest rival was Colin Fish playing in his first Summer event who finished on -2. Third placed was Peter Miles one shot behind in his first event of the year.
