Event 45 - Summer 2003 - Essex

8th Summer Trip held on 11th/12th July 2003

For our eighth Summer event we travelled to Essex to play 2 rounds at Five Lakes Hotel, Golf and Country Club and then another round at Frinton Golf Club. Our first night we had the traditional curry.  The weather was an absolute scorcher. For pics see the Gallery.

36-hole Stableford at Five Lakes

Al Nawrocki made up three shots and more from the morning round to overhaul the field and win his first Summer Stableford in this combined two-round event. His superb afternoon round of 38 points on the Links course peaked on the tenth with a hole-in-one and he finished with a total of 67. Morning leader Colin Fish who had scored 32 on the Lakes course had a two-round score of 62 and the runner-up spot. Richard Walsh with a fine afternoon's 36 moved up to third.

Medal at Frinton

On the superb Frinton course Richard Walsh was the only player to shoot below his handicap and so with a -1 round, the 16-handicapper won his first ever medal, after two previous runner-up spots. His round only included one double-bogey, a feat that no-one else could match. Steve Watson squeezed home  in second on the countback with a better net back nine (of -2) from Colin Fish (level) as both players had finished on +2.
