Event 65 - Autumn 2008 - West Surrey

43rd Golf Day held on 24th Sept 2008

A hidden gem this course, a pity that we could only muster a round dozen. Peter Hopkins made a reasonable defence of his title with a respectable 32. This was 2 behind Peter Chance who just missed out on a prize. In third place was Shailen Patel on 35, his best score for some time. Paul Jeanes must have thought that his 39 would be a winning score but it was not to be. Matt Fish was the days youngest player, lowest handicapper and shot the days lowest score. And one of the highest points total too. He played faultless golf, a birdie on the par 4 fourth, bogey at the 5th and 7th and a birdie at 15. The other fourteen were all pars. He shot gross 71 for 44 points!! An amazing win. Matt also won the longest drive with a boomer on the last, Steve Watson pipped him for the nearest-the pin however. Steve then paired up with Shailen Patel to win the foursomes by three points. Barry Hough held on to his lead to win the 2008 Championship.
