Event 93 - Autumn 2017 - Gatton Manor

We were very pleased to see the return of both John & Ian Cooper after a few years absence. Both are ex-winners of the Stableford Trophy with 1 and 2 wins. This took our numbers to 13, up a touch on recent years. Gatton Manor proved to be very difficult, the semi was pretty long and wet and of course there are a number of water hazards. There were also some tough pin positions like the par 3 fourth, a sloping uphill green with the flag at the top. This was the nearest the pin hole which John Cooper hit quite near the flag… only to trickle down and roll off the green. Shailen Patel scooped this prize. The par 4 twelfth was another tough pin position. Yours truly was pin high but again it all sloped steeply down towards the front. My first putt was within 2 feet but above the hole, my next lipped out and left me almost off the front of the green. Our three ball totalled only 58 points between us with John & Reg both in the bottom three. Group 2 would contain the winner with a record winning margin too. Ian Cooper scored 19 going out with three pars on 6, 7 and 8. Despite three blobs on the second nine (including the last hole) he still made another four 3 pointers for a final score of 34 points. Shailen and Matt (14 going out) both scored 22. Group 3 all struggled too although worth mentioning Pammi’s inward nine of 14 points. Group 4 found it tough as well although they would contain the third placed golfer. Despite six blobs Colin scored 22 and had the best back nine from the group on that score. So Ian Cooper won the Stableford Trophy for the third time by nine points, with Steve Watson runner up (as in May) and Colin Fish third. Pammi Channa won the longest drive at the 17^th.
