Event 98 - Autumn 2019 - Mid Sussex

65th Golf Day held on 9th Sept 2019

One of our earliest dates for our September event and the weather was looking dodgy. After heavy rain in the morning we pretty much escaped it all save for a few wet bunkers. Mid Sussex is a nice course and the food was very good. We had fifteen for this event, the best number since Bramley May 15 when we had the same number. A few old faces returned and we also had three new guests. Peter Miles lead the way and our defending champion shot 8 pars in his score of 32 pts. Playing partner Matt Fish matched him with 8 pars, same points and also scored on every hole, the only player to do so. Third player Paul Jeanes was just a point behind with 7 pars but 5 blobs meant he won the booby prize. Colin Fish was the best from match 2 with 28 points (and 4 pars) with brother John retiring through injury after 9. In match 3 Shailen Patel was top scorer and his 5 pars helped him score 33 pts and third place. Richard Walsh was one of 3 players to be co-leaders at the half way point on 17. He couldn’t maintain that and finished with 30. That just left match 4 with 2 of the Purley Downs boys both on 16 after 9. Steve Watson started with a blob but managed 8 pars and with an inward 9 of 18 a total of 34. He couldn’t keep up with Al Nawrocki who managed 8 pars and a birdie and 22 on the back 9 with just 2 dropped shots for a winning 38. This is Al’s third win his others being in May 1997 and Sept 1996. Paul Jeanes hit a massive drive on the 10^th to win the longest drive and guest Tony Martin get closest to the hole to win the nearest the pin on the 5^th.
